Hooked on Books

I can't believe I haven't heard of Colin F. Barnes until now! He writes really well and Salt was excellent! I just finished it and I could tell it was coming to a close, but I kept thinking, please don't end now, please! It was that good!  It's set in a post-apocalyptic world where a series of storms have left everything underwater except for the tops of the tallest mountains. The few remaining survivors have anchored together any ships that are still floating from yachts, oil tankers, fishing vessels and container ships etc. into a floating city a.k.a. a "flotilla," that they live on. The story delves into their survival on the flotilla, but there is also a murderer on board which is causing added chaos to an already turbulent society. On one hand, they are looking for a murderer and on the other, they are also trying to discover the cause and cure of a deadly bacteria that is infecting the air and water. There was a lot going on, pretty much non-stop action throughout. I guarantee you won't fall asleep reading this one. If you like action, mystery or post-apocalyptic stories, I would recommend giving it a try. The end insinuates that there is more to come, so I hope it comes soon. I'm ready to read the sequel now! In the meantime I'm going to check out Barnes a little more and see what else he has to offer.
