A Peculiar Adventure

Hollow City - Ransom Riggs

I know I've said it before but I really think Ransom Riggs has a great thing going here with this series, the peculiar characters and especially the included pictures! I won't say the pictures are the best part because the writing is equally good but they really are a nice bonus! I love being able to see visuals of what the author is writing about. It really brings the story to life. I wish more authors would include pictures for adults too and not just kids. LOL  Anyways, on to the story... this was another one of those series, where the first book was so good, you really don't expect the second one to be able to match it's greatness but in this case I thought it was an exceptional follow-up. The story starts right where it left off in the first book with the peculiar children on a boat fleeing from their island and the wights. They are trying to get to London to find a ymbryne that can help heal their headmistress, Miss Peregrine. It's a fun adventure in which they encounter gypsies, hollows, soldiers, wights and even other peculiars along the way. There was also a nice twist at the end which I didn't see coming at all but then it kind of abruptly ended so it's a good thing I have the third book, "Library of Souls" with me right now or I would not have been happy! : )
